The Call To Serve–#write31days

First let me say that I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. That is the actual and proper name for our church.  Our church is often referred to as the LDS Church, or the Mormon Church.  This series of posts was at the request of some of my friends on Facebook.  You can read more about that here–on my Landing Page or introduction for the Write 31 Days Challenge.

One of the most exciting moments of your mission is receiving your call to serve.  Finding out where you have been assigned to serve as a missionary is a big moment.  The missions are assigned by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.  Here is a brief explanation of what this looks like by Elder Dallin H. Oaks:

This video explains a bit about the process of a Mormon Mission Call:

When you finally get your call in the mail, it is an exciting and special moment.  Lots of families make videos of their missionaries opening up their calls.  I really liked this one of three friends who all got their calls fairly close together and all began their missions this August.

Neither Gary nor I have videos recorded of us receiving our mission calls back in the day.  We are old and it wasn’t in vogue to video that kind of stuff then.  However, we didn’t miss the chance to record Chandler receiving his mission call.  It will hopefully be something fun and special that he can share with his future family someday.  Here is the big moment for him:
