Earlier this year I started a personal challenge to share one of the 21 principles as covered in the book by Richard G. Scott.  This book has really touched my heart and I have felt impressed to share it with you and my own feelings about each of the principles. Why does the Lord sometimes choose to speak with us through dreams, while we are sleeping?  I think it is because sometimes, that is when we are finally quiet enough to listen and He can speak to us and we can hear.  There are so many things that provide a lot of noise throughout the day and in our lives.  Sometimes, we need to be still and at times, we are only still when we are asleep.  Thus, it makes this a perfect opportunity for the Lord to speak to us without interruption.

If we are aware that the Lord can use our dreams to convey spiritual lessons, then we can learn valuable truths through those experiences.  That’s a pretty powerful thing.  He doesn’t always choose our dreams to speak to us, but when He does, we ought to notice and pay attention.

It is also important to note that not ALL of our dreams are messages from God.  We need to learn how to tell the difference.  The Spirit can help us to discern the difference.  We just have to be in tune and listen.

Noise.  Daily I hear lots and lots of noise.  Not all of the noise is a bad thing.  It is a part of life.  In fact, most of the noise I hear each day are good things.  But that is a problem in that sometimes I get so carried away doing good things, that I miss the most important things and priorities.  I’m not doing anything bad, per say…but I am often too busy to just be still.  I forget to “Be Still and know that I am God.”

It’s funny that God has to often remind us of what is really important.  Our faith, our families, and our progression here on earth to return to live with Him again someday.  Sometimes our good priorities get out of whack and we need to place them back in order.  We need to do a personal inventory to see where we are.  We need to identify that which is truly the most important in our lives and to our salvation and then work toward those things first.  God, family, and then everything else.  By doing this, we will find peace, happiness and contentment.  Is it easy?  No.  If it was easy, it wouldn’t be worth it.  We wouldn’t cherish it as much.  We would become complacent in our purpose here on earth.  But by making our priorities align with God, we can become a light that shines in the darkness of the world.  Sounds pretty good to me.

My husband and I have always worked well together when it comes to spiritual decisions for our home.  It has been a blessing to us, but it has also been something we have actively worked on together.

Back in December of  2008, I approached my husband and asked if for 2009, we could set the goal of reading scriptures daily together as a family as well as holding family prayer.  He agreed that this was something we absolutely needed to do and we set that goal and then shared it with our son.  There were days when one of us really didn’t want to do it, or it wasn’t convenient.  However, because we had set this goal as a couple and then as a family, there was always one of us that encouraged everyone else to just do it and that it wouldn’t take very long.  I am happy to say that to this day, we have never missed a single time of family scripture reading and study and family prayer.  Now it is such a habit that it is just what we do.

Once we felt we had that down, I talked with my husband about upping our level of spiritual commitment and family study.  I suggested that we outline a family study program for the year that included a monthly scripture to focus on and a hymn we would sing each day.  I also suggested topics for our Family Home Evenings that we hold each Monday evening.  This is a time where we discuss the gospel and do things as just a family.  He agreed and we sat down together and planned out our year for 2013.  I am happy to say that this worked very well and we really saw a difference in our home.  We did this again for 2014. Then we tweaked it a bit each year thereafter.  Little did we know that we were really in training for the Come Follow Me program that is now a current part of our religious studies. Switching to Come Follow Me was natural and fairly easy for our family.

I am thankful that I am married to a wonderful and worthy Priesthood holder of God.  I am thankful that he includes me in making the Spiritual decisions for our family.  I know it has made our own bond stronger and has strengthened our marriage and home and family.

I LOVE this one.  This is a moment to celebrate womanhood and all that we are are daughters of God.  We are special and are fundamentally made to be different than men.  We are the glue for the family.  We set the tone of the home.  We are the ones who are designed to nurture and love.  It’s our God-given calling here on earth.  We should embrace our divine gift and work to make our homes a bit of heaven.  When we run from this and try to be like men, we are miserable because we are not living our divine mission.  Let’s embrace our differences and celebrate who we are and what only we can do for our homes and loved ones.

I am in awe by the power of the priesthood.  I am so thankful for the blessing of its influence in my life.  I have witnessed many miracles that have been made possible through its power.  And all it requires of us to be blessed by the power of the priesthood is just to believe and have faith.  The Lord wants to bless us through His power.  I know that it is through the power of the priesthood that I am able to see today.  I know I was healed through this power.  I also love that we can ask for more guidance and direction or comfort when we need it and through they laying on of hands by a worthy priesthood holder, our Father in Heaven will give us just what we need.  The power of the priesthood is truly a magnificent gift of love from our Heavenly Father.  I know it is through the priesthood power that we will be able to return to live with Him again someday through the ordinances of the priesthood.  Those are available to all who believe and follow His path home.
