If you are looking for an easy way to teach the upper multiplication tables and get your kids to clean, have I got a company for you! Trigger Memory Systems has some of the best tools to make your life easier as a mom and as a teacher! We both absolutely LOVED these products! Let me give you a run down on each one…
We have had a difficult time in our home learning the multiplication tables. It has been challenging as my son has had a very hard time memorizing them and then retaining the information. He has always been a visual learner, and let’s face it, math can be a bit dry at times for most people. I was floored when I realized that he had never even been introduced to multiplication when I pulled him from public school in the 4th grade. Yet another reason we made the change. But I have spent more time frazzled and frustrated because the boy just can’t remember those math facts. He does very well in math otherwise, and even enjoys it. But multiplication has been just plain ugly.
When I received Times Tales to review, I will admit I thought it just looked too simple to actually work. I looked over the materials and sighed to myself that this was probably not going to be the most promising of reviews. However, when I introduced the material to my son, I smiled and followed the instructions to the letter. I didn’t want him to pick up on my complete lack of enthusiasm.
I have to say that I was completely floored by the results. In just 30 minutes we had completed the first part of the program and my son was laughing. He smiled and giggled and told me, “Mom, I think this one better be a 5!” I thought I would reserve judgement for later. You can imagine my surprise when he rattled off the math facts as he remembered the stories that were presented in the learning materials. He would look up and to the side as he was presented with a problem during the flashcard portion and give me the answer. My favorite was 8 X 4. He would say, “Let’s see, Mrs. snowman, the chair and 3 buttons and 2 mittons makes 32.” Success!
He has retained the facts too, for the first time. All I can say is that I am now wondering where this program was when I first tackled teaching him his times tables. This was so EASY, I can hardly believe it. I highly recommend this program. It is worth the $29.95 price and more. The time that is saved by using this program is priceless.
These little cleaning charts are a lot of fun. My son likes order and specific instructions on how to do things. As a child with Asperger’s, these charts fit the bill. I think that too often we are quick to tell our children to clean their rooms and pick up the living room or do the laundry. Sometimes, we forget to tell them exactly HOW to do these things. This just causes frustration for both you and your child when the task in not completed in the manner we would wish it to be.
These charts are great as they break down each task into step by step directions. Although my son already knew how to do many of these things, I can see how beneficial it would be for small children. But, he does like the charts as they break it down into a list to accomplish. I can ask for something to be completed, and he will simply grab one of the charts and I don’t have to worry that it will be done properly. That makes it a win-win situation for both of us!
