I choose to give this product 5 out of 5 Gold Teacher’s Stars!
This is my 3rd and final review of the TIme 4 Learning site for the TOS Homeschool Crew.
Time 4 learning is an online educational program that consists of math and language arts curriculum. As a bonus to the program, they also include science and social studies. The program is designed to fulfill the needs of preschoolers through the eighth grade. The program is used by homeschoolers, as an after school remediation and enrichment and as a replacement for summer school.
Whether mainstream, gifted, or special needs, Time 4 Learning provides a flexible, student-paced approach. Children can be placed in different levels by subject. For example, a child might be in fifth grade language arts but fourth grade math.
I found the registration process to be fairly easy and you can read my thoughts on that subject here. I also found the implementation into our homeschool program to be beneficial as I talked about here.
One of the things that I have enjoyed the most is that I have the capability to check on my child’s progress and see how he is truly doing in this program. The detailed information that is provided has helped me to make corrections in the admininstration of the product. For example, I can see just how much time my child is taking with a given subject and lesson. I can see how much time he is spending on the quizes and tests. Much to his dismay, I brought up the fact that he had only spent a few minutes on a quiz and remarked that it was no wonder that he did not do well. As I was sharing this information with his father, my son commented, “Mom busted me big time!” Now that he knows I can check up on him, he is more careful and takes the time he needs to complete his work.
In our homeschool, I demand that he achieves an 80% or better in order to go on. He has learned to calculate how he did on a quiz or test and knows he must review the lesson and retake the quiz or test if he fails to meet this level. The questions aren’t the same the next time he takes the quiz, so I feel confident that he is mastering the material and not just memorizing the order of the answers.
I have found that my son is quoting the things that he is learning more and more often. He is a very visual learner, so this program works very well for us. He is very happy when he is working on his Time 4 Learning studies. He has asked that we continue this program throughout the year and just do some Unit Studies on the side. I love to do Unit Studies with him, so I feel confident that we have found a system that makes both of us happy. He can learn through Time 4 Learning, and I can feel the closeness that I love that comes through doing Unit Studies in our homeschool. And we get to explore our interests instead of feeling tied down in our Core subjects. Time 4 Learning takes care of this need for us and is giving us more freedom.
If you have a student with special needs or a gifted child, you may want to seriously consider this program in your own homeschool. It has proven to be a blessing in our home, and I highly recommend this product!
