I thought it might be nice to share what we will be studying this next school year. I’ve pretty much narrowed things down and I have a plan put together. Now I just need to actually figure out our schedule. But I can do that after we complete this current school year. I purchased a couple of items while we were at the Midwest Convention, so I am feeling all set for the new school year. The nice thing is that I really don’t need to get anything else, as I already have these things in my homeschool library. So here is what I have planned for next year:
MATH–We will be using Thinkwell Math-Prealgebra
SCIENCE–Chandler really wanted to study Zoology this year. So I relented and we will be using Apologia and studying all 3 of the Zoology books: Flying Creatures of the 5th Day, Swimming Creatures of the 5th Day, and Land Animals of the 6th Day
GRAMMAR–We will be finishing up Bridge to the Latin Road, (which is filled with sentence diagramming), and then use Great Latin Adventure I and Great Latin Adventure II
COMPOSITION–We plan to use Writeshop I or IEW, which is a review item for the TOS Crew this next year.
VOCABULARY–Vocabulary Cartoons is our first choice. However Total Language Plus will also meet some of our vocabulary needs.
LITERATURE–Total Language Plus is what we will be using this year. I really liked how this program is laid out to study classics. So I chose 3 units that we will study in-depth this year: A Wrinkle in Time, The Hobbit, and The Hiding Place.
HISTORY–We will be studying World History using The World Before Christ, Volume 1, and The World After Christ, Volume 2
GEOGRAPHY–We will be studying the geography that coincides with our history studies. However, we are also going to do a quick course on US geography as well. This is more for fun as Chandler loves US geography, and I totally believe in delight directed learning.
TYPING–Chandler doesn’t think he needs this, but I know better. So we are using Keyboarding for the Christian School
ART–We will be tying in various art projects with our history and science studies. However, I want to study some artists as well. So we will be doing the Artists project pack by Amy Pak of Homeschool in the Woods
MUSIC–We will be completing our 2nd year of Simply Music for piano. We are also going to be studying composers this year and will be using A Young Scholar’s Guide to Composers Study
PE–For this subject, we will be doing various activities, including kickball with a homeschool group and different exercise videos, and of course the Wii.
Well, that’s it for this next year. What are you planning to use in your homeschool?
