You can’t judge a book by its cover, except well…everyone does. Your cover is the single most important advertising for your book. It either draws a reader in and makes them want to pick it up and see what is inside, or it repels them and they move on toward another book. It’s an investment and one you should consider and choose wisely.
If you don’t have graphic artist skills of your own, and you aren’t one of the people who can learn them and instinctively know what should and should not go together and will fit your genre, you need to hire a professional. Over the next couple of days I will share some resources on how to do it yourself, but if you want to skip that learning curve, here are a few professionals I have either used in the past or have come highly recommended from some other author friends.
If you have others that you have used and recommend, be sure to leave a link for them in the comments section.
Christi Gifford is The Graphic Lady and she is fabulous! I highly recommend her for any nonfiction book cover. She just gets it. She can be slow at times, but her work is stellar and if you don’t mind waiting a little bit, you will not be disappointed in the final product. Don’t use her for something you need immediately, but for things you have planned out and have a little bit of time, you can’t go wrong using Christi.
