This weekend we will be ending our homeschooling journey. Our son will be graduating from high school and since we have no other children, we will be done homeschooling. As we approach the conclusion of this journey, I am left with mixed feelings. Part of me is sad to see it end. The other part of me is elated that we have done it and my limited time will open up a bit and I will be able to spend more time on my writing and publishing adventures. I think Chandler is just elated.
We sent out announcements:
This weekend, we will be having an open house. Chandler has invited lots of friends and family to help him celebrate. We are praying for good weather.
I am busy this week making some display boards all about Chandler. They will share a bit about his journey through homeschooling high school. I’ll share pictures of those after our celebration.
Chandler is graduating with honors. He carried a perfect GPA of 4.0. It was a challenge to keep up with him and his smarty pants brain. It’s never been dull, that’s for sure. So he proudly gets to wear an honor sash. He also gets an honor medal to wear around his neck. He is a bit spoiled, but deserves it. He is also getting two honor cords.
The first is a red, white, & blue cord that represents Community Service. In order to earn this, he had to complete 80+ hours of community service. He has completed far more than the requirement. He volunteers weekly at our public library on Thursdays, and helps twice a month at our local Bountiful Baskets Co-op site. He also has helped with several Eagle Scout projects and has spent probably a minimum of 60 hours these past couple of months indexing death records for genealogical availability and purposes. These are just a couple of the things he has done for community service. This honor cord is well earned.
The second honor cord, is a blue and gold cord that represents Literary Excellence. Chandler has written a series of six books, of which the first two are published and the third will be published very soon. All six of the books will be published and available on Amazon by the end of this summer. Another well earned honor cord.
I have planned lots of yummy treats for his Open House. I’ve found lots of great ideas on Pinterest and we are utilizing some of these as well as some of Chandler’s favorites. It should be a fun couple of hours.
We will be volunteering that morning at our Bountiful Baskets Co-op and then coming home to set up and do any final preparations. Yes, it will be a busy and exhausting day.
On Sunday evening, Chandler will be graduating from Seminary. He’ll get a certificate for that accomplishment as well. He has love the past 4 years of Seminary and getting to study the scriptures each day in class.
On Monday, he’ll get to see his friends that are in public school graduate. He likes that he will already be done. I do too.
Congratulations to Chandler and all of the 2015 graduates!
