It often seems that the family friendly movie has gone by the wayside when you turn on the television these days. They are so few and far between and you really have to be extra cautious and diligent to find something clean and that you won’t be worried about your children seeing. As Christian parents, we try to protect them from the worldly things as much as possible, hoping to strengthen them so they can make wise choices on their own in the future.
We had the opportunity to preview a movie in our home as part of the Family Movie Night campaign. It was so nice to have a clean show available to watch with every family member. Shows like this one help me to have faith that not everything on television should be banned from our home. There is still a place for quality entertainment that uplifts and inspires.
SYNOPSIS OF MOVIE:
Sometimes Life Gives You More Than You Bargained For
Up to this point, Sally Danville’s life has played out just as she hoped it would. A beautiful and free-spirited musician, she and her fighter-pilot husband, Jason, live life on the go, free of domestic responsibilities. But with a single phone call from Child & Family Services case worker, Dorothy (Phylicia Rashad, The Cosby Show), she learns that things don’t always go according to plan. Sally (Brooke White, American Idol) is met with the news that her best friend from college has died in a tragic accident on a Peace Corps mission and has named Sally the legal guardian of her four kids – 3 of them adopted from third-world countries. Now Sally and Jason (Joe Flanigan, Stargate Atlantis) must quickly learn to parent this instant family and help the kids deal with the culture clash of life in America. The story is both humorous and heartwarming, revealing how fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others.
I found the movie to be quite charming and inspiring. I really enjoyed seeing Brooke White in this sort of venue. We enjoyed watching her on American Idol. It was fun to hear her sing again as she sings several songs throughout the movie.
We really loved the strong storyline that was present here and that the movie was clean and wholesome. It was nice to see a movie that effectively portrayed the message of putting family over career. It was so nice to have a movie back up the things we teach in our own family and not have to explain why we shouldn’t behave that way or why we shouldn’t put career over family. The adoption theme was also done very well in this movie. There really wasn’t anything that seemed far-fetched as can be the case in movies. This was a movie that made me laugh and cry. This was truly a family movie that I would be proud to have friends watch with us. It is a movie I would be proud to own and place on my video shelf to watch again and again.
Change of Plans will premiere this Saturday, January 8th at 8/7c on FOX so be sure to tune in and not miss this wonderful family movie! It is so wonderful to have family friendly movies available once again. You won’t want to miss this one!
