Since my writing and publishing are in total disarray at the moment, I thought I would do a post each night, Monday through Friday, about what I am accomplishing. This will help me figure things out and provide a bit of accountability and show me where I am messing up and spending too much time doing whatever. Public shame should work wonders. I already know I will mess up. This week is to help me ease in to September where I will have concrete goals to meet. A lot of this week will be spent planning and plotting. It will also get me used to blogging 5 days a week again. I hope over the next couple of months that I will learn and be able to tweak my own writing process. That is the ultimate goal.
I thought I would start a little personal challenge for my writing. I need to figure out my rhythm and get on track for my writing and publishing goals. So I have spent most of today playing around with a new to me program for organization, called Trello. I’ve had a blast color coding things and making boards for my publishing business and my personal world. I’ll explain more about Trello throughout this week as I do these posts each night. I’ll even share some snapshots of what it looks like. I just know some of my more planning freak friends are going to want to play with it and use it for their own lives. The possibilities are endless.
I spent the morning finishing reading a writing craft book. I really enjoyed this one and I can’t wait to utilize some of the information I have learned. It also helped motivate me to do this challenge and figure things out. So it was time well spent in my opinion.
The boy needs more driving hours toward getting his full license. His permit expires the end of September, and I told him that I refuse to renew it at his age. So he is getting pushed out of his comfort zone and being forced to drive. It’s weird how he really could care less about driving. Even weirder since he is a very good driver. Anyway, we needed to get the tags on our car renewed, so we drove to the county courthouse rather than just mailing a check and getting them back in the mail. It takes about an hour each way, so good driving time for the boy. I am rounding up just a tiny bit to the full hour. There is one long length that seems at least three times longer than it actually is and he gets credit for the full three times. That stretch is hideous and boring.
We got to the courthouse safely and tags were renewed. On the way back home, we stopped at the A & W and had lunch and got a couple of gallons of rootbeer. We took one of the gallons to my parents as a treat. Anyway, he did a great job and we are all still alive and well. I think he’ll be ready for his driving test in a couple of weeks.
One item of concern is that the “Service Engine Soon” light came on during the trip. I am hoping it was just a gremlin and isn’t anything serious. I can’t do serious at the moment. Fingers crossed.
I played around with Trello and began to create boards and get organized. I had a great time and I can’t wait to finish setting everything up the way I want it to be over these next couple of days.
As part of family night, we went out to harvest the green beans from our garden. We’ve had someone stealing them quite regularly and I wanted to get them before they did this time. Unfortunately, they had already picked all but a dinner’s worth. This frustrates me as I really needed to can beans this year. We can’t stand the cans from the store and we all love the ones I put up. Gary is considering putting up some cameras to get them on film. I suggested just setting a bunch of mouse traps all throughout the beans so we could catch a rat. My mom thought we might get sued if I did that as we caused harm to the thief. In today’s world, I suppose that is a real possibility. It’s fun to think about it though.
I’m now headed off to bed. Believe it or not, but this is early for me lately. I am hoping to change that as well. I don’t want to be such a night owl. I am hoping that this will help my health as well. More sleep can’t hurt, right?
