I Choose to give this product 4 out of 5 Gold Teacher’s Stars!
I am not an artist. I do not draw. (I can barely make stick figures, and even then I am questioned what they are…) I do not paint. (Although I have always wanted to learn…) I do not sculpt. However, I appreciate good art and the people who can create it. I even believe that it is a very important part of a child’s education. So how does someone like me, who is so artistically challenged, teach art successfully in their homeschool? They use a fantastic art curriculum called Artistic Pursuits.
When I was asked which level I would like to receive for review, I chose Jr. High, Book 2 as I already owned Book 1 in this level. I knew that what I would be receiving would be of the highest quality and would be a great product to round out our Art studies for Jr. High. When I mentioned that we would be receiving the next book in the series for review, my son literally lit up. He was so excited to continue his studies through this curriculum and to learn color theory and how to use pastels.
One of the biggest pluses for me as a teacher, is that I don’t need to hold the hand of my son as he studies his art lessons. The books at this level are self-directed and written to the student. I do not have to make any major preparations for my son to complete an art project. This is a great benefit for me and I love that I do not need to spend a lot of time but at the same time, I am ensured that he is getting a great education in art.
The book is put together very well and is colorful and filled with Art history and Appreciation. The pages are also filled with techniques and beautifully colored pages. But I don’t want you to just take my word for it this time. Since art is a visual subject, I want to share some of the pages from this book that are available on the Artistic Pursuits website. Let’s just say that seeing is believing…
The book is just $42.95 for an entire year’s worth of in-depth Art study. And since the book is a non-consumable product, you will be able to use it again and again to teach others. I have actually found that I am learning a lot from this book. Who know…maybe one of these days I will actually be able to create a masterpiece of my own? Well, I can at least give it a try! With Artistic Pursuits, I think I just may find a picture or two in my future.
The books are also available in the following levels:
