This week we began our school year and I must say that it has been a very good start. My son is enjoying his studies and looks forward to the day with anticipation and zeal. He looks forward to the next day and wants to know what he is going to get to learn as soon as the current day is finished. That is what I would consider to be a fabulous start to the year!
Today I was very thankful that I got to take charge of his education and direct him with our beliefs as we studied evolution in science.I know that this topic can be controversial, but I felt it was necessary to talk about it and then make sure that he understood that we believe in the creation.
As we read the textbooks and began to discuss the topic, I was amazed at how his young mind works. He quickly deducted that he didn’t feel that the topic was right and began to make comments about how God created everything. The highlight of the discussion was when he finally exclaimed, “That Darwin is crazy! He needs a religion class!”I felt very proud of him as I had not needed to direct the conversation to creationism because he did it first.
I think that one of the greatest joys in homeschooling my child is to experience and witness firsthand how his mind works.I get to hear the cute things that he says throughout the day. I get to correct misconceptions to follow the values that we hold dear in out family. What a great blessing it is to have these experiences.
I love that I get to witness my child as he becomes an independent thinker. He has a truly amazing mind and I am so grateful that I can watch it grow and develop. I am glad that I get to help nurture that mind and teach it truth.
As you are starting your school year, what has stood out to you? What are you enjoying this year? How are your children growing? Leave me a comment and share.
