Today I am thankful for a warm home. It is mighty cold outside and lots and lots of snow is on the way this weekend. I am looking forward to just snuggling in my warm home and maybe watching a movie or reading a good book. Maybe I will do both.
When we moved into this house, we knew that we would be making lots of updates to it. It is my grandparents old home and we have even managed to find the original log cabin that it was built around. One of the improvements that we made immediately, was to insulate it really well and put in a new heating system. We chose a boiler system. I know that sounds like a huge monster heater. But remember that progress has occurred and it is actually quite a small unit. The beauty of this system is that it provides us with our hot water on demand and also heats our home. It is very economical and I am grateful we chose this system. I am especially grateful for the hot water on demand after Chandler has taken one of his very long, relaxing showers and I am waiting to take one after him. It is nice to not have to worry about taking a cold shower on Sunday morning when I am preparing for church services.
Even though as I sit here and look around and see that there is not even one room that is complete in my home, at least I can say it is warm. I hope that someday I will be able to say that we have completed a room with the renovations. It would be so nice to have things the way I want them to be. But for now I am content in knowing that we are at least warm and cozy. That makes us truly blessed. Not everyone is so blessed to have such a warm place to call home.
So this weekend, let the snow blow and blow. They are predicting that we will receive a couple of feet of snow. I will watch it fall outside through my windows and snuggle in my warm home. I may grab a blanket just for the softness and fuzziness. I may drink some hot chocolate with marshmallows. But all the time I will be grateful that I am warm.
What are you thankful for today?
