Today I am thankful for the simple things. Simple things bring me comfort and quite often joy.
I love having something as simple as a cup of hot cocoa on a gold day. I love being able to add mini marshmallows to that steaming cup of hot cocoa. It is a simple treat. A simple enjoyment that fills me with warmth and sugary, chocolately goodness.
I like being able to take a walk on a Fall day. I love the brisk air and the colorful scenery. It is a simple enjoyment that God has provided.
I like curling up with a good book and a blanket on a cold day. There is just something delightful and comforting about losing yourself in a book. And you can never go wrong with a fuzzy, soft blanket. It’s simple.
I like just spending time with my family. We don’t even have to be doing anything special. We can just be in the same room and I enjoy it. It is simplicity at its best.
I like seeing the sun shine brightly. I like seeing the snow fall lightly. I like the sound of rain gently drumming a beat as it falls and renews the earth. It is simply weather.
I like soup and rolls. Nothing fancy. Just a simple pot of simmering vegetables in broth and I am more than happy. Sometimes more complex food is nice, but most of the time I just really appreciate the simplicity of a bowl of soup.
I like listening to music. I prefer a simple classical piece or a hymn. While I do like most anything when it comes to music, I prefer simplicity the most.
I like simple landscapes in my art choices. Simplicity speaks to me. I find if the artist makes it too complex, that I lose my enjoyment. It isn’t relaxing to me. It makes me feel confined if the artwork is too busy. It makes me feel like the art is contentious or high maintenance. I have too much of that in my life, so I don’t need my art to be that way too.
Simple things are comforting to me. They keep me calm. They make me smile. I find the most simple creations amazing. I wonder at how the Lord made something so simple and so wonderful all at once. I marvel at the simple petals of a flower. So soft, bright and beautiful. Yet still simple in its elegance.
Thank you Lord for the simple things in life.
